Smile

Colson is giving us some smiles! I love it. I know some people say it's just gas, but I think they are little surprise gifts from GOD. ; )
It's so real to me now that Colson is here how I'm a mom to three children. Two in our home. One in Heaven. So many thoughts and emotions bumping around in my heart.

I have such joy over Colson. I love to hold him. Look at him. Taking in what Jason and I have waited so long for. I'm trying to be patient with Zach as he adjusts and encourage him throughout the day when he pushes my limits. He's going to be such a wonderful big brother. All the while my feelings for Reese are so close to the surface. How next month is her one year birthday and the day she went home to Jesus.

I want her 1st birthday to be special, and I hope the things I'm planning for her celebration honor her little (yet big!) life.
The new man in my life ; )

From the third night we brought him home, Colson has been sleeping so well. What a blessing! I prayed hard about this . ; ) When he is awake during the day he is content, too.

I'm treasuring the very few calm moments of our day when I'm alone with the boys. Yesterday I got them dressed, ready, out the door and into the car all by myself! We went to the bank and the post office (drive throughs), but it was a big accomplishment for me. ; )
My mom left Sunday, and Jason's mom came yesterday. Praise the Lord for a wonderful Mom and mil! They do laundry, iron, go grocery shopping, cook, play with Z, hold Colson, the list goes on. ; )
My chunky monkey

This morning Zach said, "I want to pet Colson." Cute! He's so gentle one minute and rough the next. We survived a nose bite this morning. Zach was being so sweet with Colson patting him on the head and giving him Eskimo kisses, then he leaned down to kiss him (or so I thought), looked up at me and said, "I bit him on the nose." Poor Colson.

One day at a time, right?

The Lord your GOD is with you,
He is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
He will quiet you with His love...

  5. Car washes make me feel uncomfortable so I prefer to do the car washes wher I wash it myself.

Colson is such a beautiful gift.

I'm a mom of 3 with many miscarried angels in heaven. However, speaking of having "3" children I can tell you that when our third came. I sat down more and stared at her feet. Yes, I had two little kids to nuture as well (and i did) but instead of rushing and questioning...I'm embraced the little toes and sweet little hands. Euphoria. I truly felt God speaking to me and me listening. He knew in a few short months that things would change.
People say that by the third a mom takes less pictures and milestones are missed. I disagree. I was shown God's love and greatness so I took more pictures and every milestone (even for my third) is such a big deal. My baby (she's turning 6 on Friday) recently lost her two front teeth. Such a milestone....and hers was the one that brought tears. Yes, I've seen kids leave teeth before...but it's still a celebration for every child.

I read and feel that same joy about Colson. Enjoy it. Soak it in. We are just lucky women and moms.

Oh, our doctor said that they would be smiles and not to believe anybody that thinks otherwise. My third child would smile early and I told the ped "oh, it's just gas" and his response was what I mentioned above.

Now, that I've written a novel..you should kick me off your wonderful blog. :)

  7. I've been reading for a while but haven't commented before... So happy for your growing family!

I couldn't help but giggle that Zach bit his baby brother. My sister was 3 when I was born and when my parents heard me screaming at 2 days old my sister told them it was because she pinched me... she said she wanted to see what I would do. Ha! Maybe Zach was just curious how his little brother would react :)

  8. Katie,

Colson is such a cutie! I love his little round cheeks!!!! What a sweet addition to your family.

I can totally relate to Zach's adjustment to the new baby. My daughter was two when my son was born. Molly would sweetly ask to hold the baby and then proceed to "hug" (er, um...try to smother!)poor Spencer. We also went through the biting phase. Somehow we all managed to survive and they are now 18 and 16. Despite all the "aggressive affection" he received from her, Spencer has always adored his older sister and they are quite close.

On those tough days remember to keep your chin up, it will get better! And yes, you will actually laugh at some of the very things that stress you out now. I truly do miss those days, although at the time I didn't think they'd ever grow up! ;-)

BTW, I LOVED the picture of Zach going through the car wash! That picture completely captures the awe/fear little kids have of that darn thing! ha

  9. They are smiles to me too---when Brylie first smiled, she was looking right at a picture on the wall of Jillian! I will never forget that! I know she probably could't even see that far, but to me it was a special moment, like Jillian was shining through Brylie. I am sure you will have those moments too! I can't wait to see what you have planned for Reese's birthday!

  13. I had to laugh about Zach wanting to "pet" Colson. That's funny...I think it's probably a normal brother thing (the sweet/rough combo). Once when my older brothers were very young, one of them dumped a bag of marbles over the other one's head. Ouch!

I'm anxious to see what you have planned for Reese's Birthday!

    God Bless...
    hi-d

  14. I have told myself that my babies gas smiles are actually smiles when they see my mom (who passed away 7 years ago). I think Colson is smiling when he can see Reese. Love to you all!

  18. "The Boys".....

I bet that is just music to your heart as well as your ears!

Katie, even though I don't leave a lot of comments for you anymore, I still read every time you put up a new post and I am still praying for you, because the Lord brings you to my mind several times a day!

I pray for you, that the Lord would give you exactly what you need to be the best Mommy to your two boys. I pray that you would have oodles of reserves of patience and grace for every situation you encounter with your boys. I will continue praying! I know it's the best thing I can do for you.

It's going to be hard for a while, Katie. But hang in there. Zach will grow up and he'll be so helpful for you! Hang in there and keep looking UP!

  27. He is a doll. So precious. Having your mom there and mil there to help is wonderful. I loved it when my mom did the same thing. It helps so much. I'm sure what you have planned for Reese's celebration will be very special and perfect. I know it will help ease it some for you having Colson with you now.

  28. Ha ...that smile photo needs to be in a magazine! And the 2nd pic ...are we seeing strong similiarities to Z?? Enjoy ...and though you have those 'pushed to the limit moments' ...remember they are short lived!

  29. Ohh Katie. He is just the most handsome little fella. I am reminded as I read your post of some of my kids acting out when others came home. Having four, we always had someone who did not like having a new one in the house. Patience is something I will pray for you to have. He will definitely be testing your limits for a while and eventually realize it is not fun anymore! Take care of you and your sweet little family you so deserve!

  32. Katie,
Praise the Lord for the blessing of a third child, this beautiful one!. I thank the Father for how he has sustained you and granted favor upon your family with the birth of precious Colson. It is so wonderful to see your arms full with adorable boy. I love that Reese is present in your family, though she lives with our Redeemer! Reese's life has touched all of ours through you, her Mommy, sharing her story. Keep telling it Katie! Your testimony is huge and helps all of us. I am sending you a big congratulations, filled with joy for you all.
    Love in Christ,
    JoAnn

  39. Bahh haaa! I just snorted reading about the nose bite. I'm telling ya, Kohen did almost the same thing. Kohen would swat Wyatt in the head, and I'd ask him what happened. He's so honest and he'd say, "I hit him in the head!" I promise that it gets better. I've already promised Wyatt that I will buy him a better car than Kohen! And, I will let Wyatt pounce on Kohen one good time when they are older-pay back stink!

By the way, people always told me to take it one day at a time. I'm saying to take it one FEEDING at a time! We are on week 10 (I think!) and it is SO much better :) Hang in there!
