Race Day

It was a perfect morning for the race. I was so worried we would get too hot, but we ran mostly in the shade, so it was nice. There were over 150 runners, and that's great for a first race!
 Sweet brothers early this morning
This banner has all the names of babies or children who were being honored in the race. See Reese's name?

Jason and I are just so touched! We love each one of these faces, and know there are many others who wanted to be with us today.

I love how a race gives our friends and family something to do to show they love and remember Reese. I have no doubt they do, but everyone is so different and it may not always be easy to talk about her. They can do something like this, and it speaks volumes!

Mandy pushed the boys so Jason and I could run. Thanks, Mandy! She said Zach kept asking her to go faster. Ha!

When I first heard about the race and shared it with ya'll, I was really emotional about it. I was thrilled there was something we could do to honor Reese, but I hate that we even have a reason to do it. It's refreshing to have something so positive to focus on and put my energy into.

I am already looking forward to next year! Bring it.

You will be delivered by returning and resting; your strength will lie in quiet confidence.

  4. Just awesome Katie. All of the pictures are great, but I really love the family pic. You do such an important job of showing people that you can and must go on after a loss. Very inspiring :)

  8. Katie, what an awesome way to remember your sweet Reese. I too, lost a daughter 2 and a half year ago and would love to do a race to honor her and raise money to help research the condition she had as there is still very little known about it

  12. Hey Katie...

I am so glad it went so well! Like you said, what a wonderful first race!! I may just have to come up and run in next years race! Not joking...I would be more than honored. ;)

And if it helps to hear you are not alone, I am right there with you. When I think of ways in which we now honor Julia Grace, I feel the same way...I hate that we even have a reason to do it, too. But what a beautiful day you had, dedicated to a beautiful little girl. Hope you were very pleased and that it was just as you wanted.

Love your shirt by the way. ;)

    Love,
    Kim
