Graduation!

My parents and I trying to figure out the hood the night before graduation...nothing like last minute!

This past weekend I graduated from grad school. I received my Master of Science in Counseling. What a journey it has been!

I never expected studying counseling would be so self-reflective. It surprised me. I went into it thinking I would help the world, but the LORD used my studies to encourage and change me! He usually works this way in my life…whatever works! GOD has used the last few years to smooth off many of my rough edges. He blessed me by bringing into my life people I never would have met both through grad school and working in the public schools.

Along the way, I began to realize that graduate school was not only about equipping me in the counseling profession, it was more about GOD refining my heart so that there would be more of Him and less of me.

Even though my path has not been “traditional” in any way, GOD has guided my every step. He has humbled me.

This is more of a personal victory for me, especially since at this point I’m not heading out into the working world again. I am thrilled to be a stay at home Mom to Zach. Some people may think I’m crazy (and I used to be one of them!), but all that matters to me is that I’m following GOD’s will for my life. My parents have always instilled in me that education is never wasted and will go with me always. I belief this to be true.

I use my degree all the time; I just don’t get paid for it. Ha! It’s more a labor of love.

I’m excited to see what the LORD has planned. I can’t thank Jason, my family, and friends (you know who you are!!) enough for praying for me and encouraging me through this process. I would not have made it without you.

  6. Katie,
Thanks for sharing your heart - what a reminder that our plans are not always His - but that He has plans to prosper us and not to harm us. Now, time to play and completely enjoy your time with Zach (and Jason of course!)
    love you
